Happiness has a Secret…Low Expectations.

The best review I could get ♥️ and means so much to me.

This is Alexander the son of a family friend and he is #neurodiverse #autistic.
His Mum told me he is very picky when it comes to books but I’m so honoured that both my books have appealed to him and he enjoys them so much.

When I started these books I didn’t go in thinking about being ‘a well known author’ I did it to help kids and adults alike. I wanted them to connect not just to the stories but together while reading. I also set out to make it so as many people as possible could enjoy them and made them #dyslexiafriendlybooks spectrum friendly and #visualimpairment friendly. I have #texttospeech available on the ebook on #amazonbooks.

For anyone who doesn’t know I’m an author and writer and have my own blog website, where I share my view of the world.

I am a proud #transally and I am also the daughter of someone who is #transgender. I believe you should never be ashamed of your story because it might just help someone else.

Today I’ve put my story and views out there for the first time in my 33 years of being. I want to use my voice to help bring #acceptance and support for the #transcommunity.

Go to: https://www.madeyouloch.com/2021/04/05/we-are-not-who-people-say-we-are/ or clink link in bio to get to Made You Loch. Let’s start seeing each other as humans and being open to learning about each other #proudtransally #cistransally #flyyourflaghigh #bewhoyouare
My second book is out today! This is the sequel to my first book and I am really happy with how it has turned.

Thank you to the wonderful Daniel at @dnl_digital for the amazing job he’s done once again bringing my visual ideas to life.

Book 3 and 4 are totally different ideas and I can’t wait to get the process going.

Today is #internationalwomensday and to honour that I’ll speak MY truth.

I won’t be remembered as a woman who kept her mouth shut and I am more than okay with that. A woman with a voice is by definition a strong woman but the search to find that voice is remarkably difficult.

I am this woman because I was quiet for far too many years. I hid myself away, believing what someone else thought of me or told me I was. I yearned for someone to see me as “worthy” and “beautiful”. That has all changed. I don’t apologise for having a backbone anymore because the lessons in my life and the journey I’ve been on have given me strength to be proud of.

In my life I’ve been told I’m “too” a lot: too difficult to love, too outspoken, too strong, too fat, too smart etc. People tried to make me lesser many times in many ways. I’ve been called a bitch more than once before and to me it now means that I’m a woman who won’t bang her head against a wall obsessing over someone else’s opinion.

Something I’d tell my younger self is this; The biggest mistake you can ever make in this life is removing jewels from your crown 👑 to make it easier for someone else to carry or accept. Don’t strive for being conventionally beautiful, be angry it means you’re paying attention, be intelligent, be witty, be a Klutz, be a dork, be interesting, be humble, be adventurous, be outspoken, be assertive, be determined, dream big and most of all never apologise for being a powerful fucking woman.

Love hard. Be fierce and keep those horns high

Book 2 is well under way. I had a synopsis and some of it started and for weeks, I just stared at the words I’d written.

Backspace was my friend. No idea seemed to fit. Then I sat with my illustrator @dnl_digital and something clicked, I got words and inspiration and he could visualise what I was trying to explain.

Today is of course #valentines day and I’m not usually one to celebrate it. Love is an everyday thing, as is respect and appreciation. However, since the world is in the state it is and the last year has been an absolute #shitshow I felt today as the perfect opportunity to post a little #reminder.

While so many may be plastering social media with their declarations of love and happiness, I ask everyone to count themselves in that!

LOVE YOURSELF. RIGHT F**KING NOW!
As you are. For who you are.

Not when you lose weight.
Not when someone says you are “worthy”.
Not when you get that proposal.
Not when you get that promotion.
Not if you get a positive pregnancy test.
Not when you get the time.
Right now.

You deserve your own love as much as anyone else, every single f**king day. Look in the mirror and declare that today, your best might not be the best you gave yesterday but it will be the best you can give today and it is enough. YOU ARE ENOUGH. You got this shit handled 💜

Love yourself first because ultimately, it’s who you spend the most time with. #galentinesday #selflove #loveyourself #loveyourselffirst #youareenough #youarebeautiful #beyourself #loveyourbody #loveyourskin #lovewhoyouare #yourbestlife

Trying to catch up with my #februarywritingchallenge.
In December I #selfpublished my first ever #childrensbooks “How to Rest on a Rainbow” 🌈 after sitting with the idea for almost 2 years and letting the fear get the best of me. I had my #partnerincrime @dnl_digital on the beautiful illustrations.

The idea came to me after we lost our beloved Vader and my boys wanted to know where he’d gone. I believe in the idea of #rainbowbridge and I wanted my children to know he’d never truly leave. There is a huge gap when it comes to #petbereavement and I started a home learning course for #petbereavementcounselling but I realised that I didn’t want to counsel people, I wanted them to have comfort in a different way and that was by #literature.

#howtorestonarainbow is about Malak, a #germanshepherd who I have very much fallen in love with and I hope you do too. Malak goes on an adventure to find his rainbow 🌈 with the help of friends he meets along the way but he discovers that his journey has more to it than he first thought.

It is a take of adventure, discovery, friendship and everlasting love.

I want all walks of life involved in this book so I have made it #dyslexia friendly, #spectrum friendly and #visualimpairment friendly. The e-book on #amazon is also #texttospeech enabled and I hope to get an audio version ready soon too.

If you want to find out more about the story behind this book click the “How to Rest on a Rainbow” link in my #bio and visit my #blogpost about it too. You can find the book on Amazon and it is available in my #store also. Book 2 is now underway I hope to release it in #spring. #writersofinstagram #selfpublishedauthor #childrenswriter #childrensbooks #childrensbookillustration #readingisfundamental #authorsofinstagram
I realised I haven’t done an #introduceyourself post yet. So here it is.

Hello 👋🏻 I’m Rochelle.
I am #scottish, born and raised in a small town just outside Stirling.
I am a tattooed wife to @sani_efin_tee and a #badassmom to our 2 boys, Macen and Carson.
#dogmom to @wadewilsonthelab my very own Dugpool.
I am a #writer, #selfpublished author of “How to Rest on a Rainbow” 🌈 and working on further #childrensbooks as well as #youngadultbooks.

I am hardcore herbivore and live a vegan lifestyle.
I am a Caninetrovert and would rather spend my days surrounded by dogs over most humans.
I’m a pretty tough woman, I’ve had to be in this life. It’s taken a long time but in recent years I’ve found the voice that people in the past tried to squash and silence and I am unapologetically me.

I love #animals especially highland cows, farm animals, penguins, dogs, wolves, foxes, sea turtles, owls (I know they are birds), bears, deers and orcas.

Music holds a permanent place in my heart and life and without it, I just wouldn’t be here today.

I have a very wild spirit, I am sure I am more wolf than woman sometimes, I love the outdoors, being in nature or a good #roadtrip.

#photography is one of my favourite pastimes. I am a very sentimental person and photography allows me to capture the moments in life I’ll cherish always and allow me to show my view of our magnificent planet 🌎.

Love hard. Be fierce. Horns high 💜⚡️🤘🏻 #tattooedwomen #tattooedwife #animallover #hardcoreherbivore #authorsofinstagram #writersofinstagram #beyourself
Due to things I’ve needed to take more time and energy out of my personal life for, I’ve not been able to do the last few daily posts. I do apologise. I was going to do a short daily post on #veganism but there’s so much to say so I’ve done a blog post instead: https://www.madeyouloch.com/2021/02/10/be-kind-to-every-kind/

You can also folllw the link in my #bio.

Whether you’re #vegan or not, I hope you find this informative and get a better sense of who I am and where the decision to be vegan can stem from. If this makes even just one person stop and think, then I feel it’s been worth it.

Happy Sunday everyone. Can’t believe the first week of February has gone already.
Today is Day 7 of the #Februarywritingchallenge and I feel it’s a good one for a Sunday; Books 📚
I have always loved reading. I would love going to the library when I was younger to pick out new books and was so excited when it got changed to 8 books limit to take out instead of 5. My primary school had a small library and they were big on promoting National Book Week and encouraging us to make reading fun.

Reading isn’t something I get to do for as long or as often now, life gets really busy and with my illnesses it takes more to concentrate now than it used to. I am committing myself to read for at least 30 mins a day. When a book really gets to me though, I can read for hours and not realise it’s been so long so that another reason it’s not always as practical now.

When I went to town in my teens with my boyfriend most Saturdays, there would be 3 places I’d visit 2 involved music and 1 books. @theworksstores always has amazing offers on their books, adult and kids alike and I now usually buy most of my boys’ books from them.

There are so many books I love and have loved reading, I couldn’t possibly pick a favourite. Especially since I don’t have a “niche” when it comes to books, I love many writing styles and genres.

Here are some that have resonated over the years:
“Ash Wednesday” and “The Hottest State” by Ethan Hawke.
“The Hard Candy” series by Lauren Conrad.
I enjoy Nicholas Spark books but “The Rescue” was the first I read and it was beautiful.
“Sickened” by Julie Gregory.
“Queenie” by Candice Carty-Williams.
“We Need To Talk About Kevin” by Kevin Bridges.
“Good Vibes, Good Life” by @vexking .
“Made in Scotland” by Sir Billy Connolly.

I encourage people to try different genres, don’t think you don’t like to read, you’ve just not found the right book yet.

Reading allows you to take adventurous strides, it’s opens your mind and imagination and it allows you live many different stories and lives in one life time. It’s someone else’s words describing something you have experienced and it feels like you are truly not alone.
Day 6 of the #februarywritingchallenge.
I will briefly (I will do a more in-depth blog post soon on the subject) talk about something that can be really difficult for me and for us as a family. Both my eldest son and my husband have #highfunctioningautism. This mean that WE experience THEIR autism mildly, they constantly battle themselves. They also are able to do a lot of things that perhaps others with ASD wouldn’t be able to do.

Here are a few facts about ASD:
Boys are nearly 5 times more likely than girls to be diagnosed with ASD. 1 in 34 boys compared to 1 in 144 girls.
Not all people with autism are the same.
There is no cure for autism.
There is no known cause but scientists feel that genetics 🧬 are the main part.
People with autism have feelings and emotions. In the case of my guys, they feel so much they don’t know what to do with them nor how to communicate them effectively.

I’ve had to do a lot of work on myself, with my fabulous counsellor Shona, to make sure that I’m not only the best version of myself for me but that I’m able to be in a place where I can flip situations, communicate effectively, filter things for me and for my son and husband and most of all to learn to be patient.

Patience has been difficult for me, I grew up with my Mother never being able to sit for a minute and constantly finding tasks to do; so if she asked you to do something, you couldn’t say “yeah I’ll do it”, you got up and did it there and then. She needed an answer quick smart and that’s been the way I’ve functioned. My guys don’t function that way. They need time to process events and can’t think quickly in stressful situations.

As much as I can feel overwhelmed and lonely in the dynamic of my beautiful family, I can’t even imagine how it must feel for my guys. To see things differently, being wonderfully unique and instead of being told to celebrate that, society and the world we live in, has for a long time said there is something “wrong” with you.

My guys are 2 of the most precious souls I’ve ever met. They have changed me for the better. I couldn’t have a more devoted husband, who has done something no one else has ever done...continued in comments ⬇️
Hope you are all well and thanks for taking time to engage with this and other posts.
Day 5 #februarywritingchallenge and today I’ve chosen “Grandparents”.

I was very lucky to be very close to my grandparents, my Mom’s parent’s (Granny Ruby and Grumpy) garden joined at the back of ours and up until the end of their days I saw them every day. My other grandparents, although there was difficulty on that side of the family, were still very involved in my life.

My grandmothers were my best friends growing up. I would chat to them for ages, I loved visiting them and hearing what they had to say and stories of their lives. I learned so many things and my Granny Jack (Agnes or Nan to most) was a very wise, sharp lady. My favourites by her were “Be happy while yer livin’ cause yer a long time dead” and “I’d rather be a black sheep lass when the white sheep aren’t as white as they seem”.

My Granny Ruby was unintentionally funny, she was born in Richmond, Surrey and lived in Scotland after she married my Grumpy so her sayings were golden; a lot of “Whats naming” and rants that would crease me. Her and my Grumpy were always bantering with each other and winding each other up something chronic.

My Grandad Jack (Thomas or Tam) was a hard man, he liked things his way and I didn’t really know much about him as he never got on with my “Dad”. He was, however, kind to me on the most part and I do remember him laughing with me a lot.

My Grumpy was the male role model in my life. He was an absolute true Scottish gent. He took care of business, he bantered and wound my Granny up but he was 100% devoted to her. When she was diagnosed with Vascular Dementia, he’d peel the skin from smoked sausage and apples just so she’d eat. He treated everyone fairly, respect him, his home and family and he’d do the same. He didn’t tolerate drama.

I miss them all so much and I hope they are checking in with their great Grandsons. Here’s to you all 🥃

Agnes Drysdale Jack (Nee Clark) 1921-2004
Thomas “Tam” Jack 1922-2006
Arthur James Johnston 1924-2010
